Slow Avalanches and 2 Corinthians 10:5

2 Corinthians 10:5 …casting down imaginations and

every high thing that is exalted against the

knowledge of God and bringing every thought into

captivity to the obedience of Christ

When I first started my Gmail account about two years ago, prize notifications, offers for free laptops, and gifts from Nigerian Princes slowly crept into my inbox. It all began with one or two a day, then, ten a day, now I receive about 8,000 Spam messages a month. I had to train my Spam filter to recognize which were legitimate deals, and which were not. But, it’s not really a problem anymore, because Gmail faithfully clears out my Spam Box, every thirty days. Imagine, at this rate of exponential increase, I may be the proud owner of 20,000 junk mail messages a month by February 2009!

In my journey to God I notice, as soon as I backslide the tiniest bit from my spiritual practices, my ego desires ever so slightly darken the roadway of intentions to know my Saviour. These earthly wants can turn into a slow avalanche of self gratifications if I am unaware of my own proclivities. I must remain vigilant and obedient. Daily Bible reading and prayer is proving to be my best Spam Filter for selfish inclinations and negativities. Some mysterious form of synergy takes place and I am duly protected. In fact, with each day’s prayers, less debris trickles into my consciousness.

Dear Saviour, I am growing more dependent on You each day. Thank you for the dawning realization that my relationship with You is the most important thing in my life.  Help me to remain vigilant. Amen
